OVERTURES MOVES TO SIGNATURE!

Long before Signature's state-of-the-art, two-theater facility in Shirlington had even broken ground, Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer dreamed of starting a training program for emerging musical theater performers. The Kennedy Center wanted to support that dream and provided space to make it a reality. The John F. Kennedy Center has been home to Signature's OVERTURES Musical Theater Institute since its inception in 2003, and we thank all of the Kennedy Center staff who helped to nurture the program and allowed it to grow.

Now Overtures has moved to Shirlington. On June 21, 20 talented young performers arrived at Signature to begin the unique, intensive two-week, professional training workshop. The program provides rigorous and comprehensive instruction in vocal technique, dance, movement, and acting. The Overtures staff, under the direction of Eric Schaeffer, includes award-winning choreographer and Signature Theatre Artistic Associate Karma Camp; Jane Pesci-Townsend, professional actress and Chair of the Rome School of Music at Catholic University; Jay Crowder, Chair of the Music Department at Montgomery College, and Andrew Long, award-winning actor and member of The Shakespeare Theatre acting company and teaching staff. A series of Master Classes are taught by a host of Broadway performers and composers and Tony® Award winners.

The program culminates in an Overtures Showcase performance of song and dance that will take place on Friday, July 3, at 8pm in Signature's MAX Theatre . There is no charge for this entertaining evening; however tickets are required. You can call the Box Office at (703) 820-9771 to make your reservations. It's a great way to begin your Fourth of July weekend!

Overtures moves back to The Kennedy Center on Saturday, July 25, when the Overtures Showcase is presented on the Millennium Stage at 6pm. It's free and no tickets are necessary
